Share Garden

July 8, 2009

Jane Tuckwell has sent in the following request.  If you are interested in her proposal please use the Contact page of this web site to send me your contact details so they can be passed on to Jane.  Hopefully this will avoid a lot of spam.

I (Jane Tuckwell) have a garden-sharing proposition – please enquire among your members.
I’d love to have an organic vegie garden, but I’m a full time worker and single parent, and know very little about gardening!  I have a large yard with fruit trees and free-range chooks.  The property has been organic for at least 13 years (myself and previous owners), and probably longer.
What I’d like is for someone to share their expertise and work with me to create a (chook-proof) vegie patch.  I’d buy the soil, seeds/seedlings, fence materials, etc, and would help set up, and could even pay (a bit) for their labour.
If they would continue helping (even just reminding me when to water, weed, fertilise, etc), they could then share the produce, and also eggs, and fruit in season (fig, peach, apricot, nectarine, quince, 3 x plum, 2 x apple, a struggling mulberry, and also several olive trees).
Sort of like an allotment, but in my back yard in Kambah.  This could suit someone who hasn’t enough space in their own yard, or lives in a unit or town house, or is waiting for a spot in a public allotment.  If required, I could drive someone between their place and mine.
