Jerusalem Artichokes and Baby Spinach
Hi,
I have just dug up my stock of jerusalem artichokes and have many, many, MANY more than I need. If anyone would like some either for eating or planting let me know. I am happy to give them free to a good home but if you have seeds to swap me that would be great. I’m particularly interested in leek varieties and herbs at present.
Also, I’m wondering if anyone knows the variety of spinach (or an equivalent) that we can buy in the shops as baby spinach. I’d like to grow some of my own. I’m happy to swap seeds that I have for a few.
Thanks
Ray

G’Day Ray!
I have a leek that is not available commercially as far as I’m aware. I can lift you a clump and give you some seeds as well. They form bulblets at the base so when they die down all you need to do is divide them and replant. Like your Jerusalem artichokes, once you have these leeks in your garden you will never be without them.
There are many spinach varieties, and some handle our extreme heat better than others. The best advice I can give is to get seeds of as many varieties as you can, trial them scientifically by sowing batches every two or three weeks and notating each variety’s performance. You will then know which varieties do best at each time of the year in our climate.
Send me an e-mail if interested and we can take it from there. I’ve never grown Jerusalem artichokes before so it would be good to have a go.
Cheers.
John
