Sourcing Sleepers
Hi
I am on an extraordinarily tight budget but I want to build raised vege beds. I have been advised it is possible to get hold of train sleepers without creosote and other noxious chemicals and that this may be the most affordable way to build raised beds. They have to be raised fairly high (at least a metre) due to my great dane friend. Any advice you have would be greatly appreciated. I hope to build 8 large beds.

I bought untreated red gum sleepers from Bunnings at the start of this year. They are untreated and look great.

There are still stacks of heritage railway sleepers besides the line at the Yass Service Centre besides the Hume Highway. There used to be a ‘For Sale’ sign there with a mobile phone number. If you take the drive out, I hope that the sign with the mobile number is there still.

Hi there
I’ve also seen the sleepers for sale that you mention. My thinking was that at some stage they must’ve been treated to keep white ants at bay for all those years???
