Hi everyone,
I was wondering if you could advise me on the best mulch for my plot (I am just starting out). I would like a cheap option that is also good for the soil. Also, any estimate on how much to buy would be great too.

Hi Nicole.
It kind of depends how big your plot is. Generally, the smaller the plot, the better a mulch you can afford. However, due to the drought breaking, you can get really good mulch quite cheaply at the moment. On allclassifieds, there’s a chap selling mushroom compost (that he’ll deliver) quite cheaply. It’s fabulous stuff. For a 10cm depth, 1 cubic metre will cover 10 square metres.
Other great option is lucerne. Prices on bales have plummeted due to good rains. You can generally find it for between $10-15 a bale. There’s sometimes a guy who sells bales at EPIC markets, otherwise check all classifieds again. Generally, one bale will cover 5 square metres.
