Tomato Hassles

November 18, 2010

Hi
I have a question about potatoes please.
I planted potatoes late winter and they grew really well into bushy green plants through the spring. They have not flowered – 2 weeks ago I noticed that the leaves at the bottom of the plants were yellowing. Today most of the plants are drying up and dying. They are growing in a ceramic container. I wonder if they are water logged! or the soil deficient in something. What should I do? Appreciate any advice.
Thanks
Cheryl

Mmm. Not sure if i headed this question with the right heading it should be potatoe Hassle!
Wel anywayl… I tipped over my tub of potatoes today to see what is going on. Half way down the tub I found that the soil took on a greyish tinge I think this is the level of my first top up around the potato plants. There were a few potatoes of around 5cm d and the rest were smaller than new potatoes. There was no excess water in the tub but 2 of the largest potatoes were soft and runny.
New question What should I do with this soil?
    Reuse it in another bed?
    Compost it?
    Treat it? With what?
    thanks
    cheryl
