July 19, 2010

I am new to the site, so firstly HELLO all…

Secondly and beyond :-)
I live on the Northside in the Giralang Area.

I am interested in trying to grow blueberries and was wondering if anyone knew anything about growing them in Canberra , like is it possible, what conditions would be needed etc.

Also looking at growing a lemon tree but not sure what variety is best.

Oranges in Canberra

July 12, 2010

hello,

I am new to gardening in Canberra and would like some advice please.  I am wanting to grow an orange tree.  My yard is small so it will need to be on small root stock.  Could you please advise me as to which variety of orange would do best with Canberra’s cold frosty winters?

Apricot Grafting

July 2, 2010

Hi,
I have recently moved into a house with LOTS of plum trees. I am keen to try grafting some apricot scion wood onto one (to start with) and see how it goes. I have done a bit of research and am now trying to source some scion wood. Does anyone know where I can buy some, particularly locally? And can anyone recommend varieties that do well in Canberra, I am particularly interested in growing heritage varieties if possible.
Thanks for your help.
Christine

Sheep Manure Available

June 28, 2010

Gunning Public School P&C Association will deliver sheep manure (“Gunning Gold”!) to your door in Canberra on Sunday 15th August, 2010.  Please e-mail Carol at <wodonga@aapt.net.au> or call 4845 1314 before 17 July–the earlier the better.

Minimum of 5 bags per delivery.  The dry manure is collected from under shearing sheds.  Share this information and join with your neighbours if you don’t need 5 bags yourself.  Bags are $8 each; and weigh around 15Kg.

All proceeds go to the Gunning Public School, a small school of around 60 students to help supply books, sporting equipment, craft materials, etc.  The children thank you for your support.

Sourcing Sleepers

June 23, 2010

Hi
I am on an extraordinarily tight budget but I want to build raised vege beds. I have been advised it is possible to get hold of train sleepers without creosote and other noxious chemicals and that this may be the most affordable way to build raised beds. They have to be raised fairly high (at least a metre) due to my great dane friend. Any advice you have would be greatly appreciated. I hope to build 8 large beds.
