Seeking Garden Mentor

April 11, 2011

Hello,

I am looking for a gardening mentor who can teach me so many things I don’t know about gardening (and maybe chooks as well): I have a lot of questions about what to plant when, soils, aspect to sun, pest and disease management, how to propagate cuttings with some degree of success, and much more. The more patient the better as I am at times slow to learn. The closer to Bruce, the better as well.

I am young, eager to learn and become a master gardener, and efficient once I learn something, and a hard worker.

Available immediately!

Chicken Manure

April 9, 2011

I am inquiring about “chicken Poo” for my home garden and need a lot of it. The weeds are taking over and need fertilising. Could anyone suggest a source for chicken manure and where I can obtain 3-4 large sacks of it for cheap.

Thanks.

Drake available

March 28, 2011

Hi.

I keep ducks in my backyard and we have a flock hatch out every year. I have no trouble finding homes for the ducks but this year have struggled to find someone who is interested in a drake. I’m happy for him to be given away if someone would like him. He is 3 months old.

Thanks,

Melissa

Pistacchio Question

February 8, 2011

Hi,

Can anyone tell me if pistacchios grow in the Canberra region (I live in Murrumbateman) and if so what type of environment they like ie soil, sunny/shade etc. I have read that they like cold winters and hot summers (which I thought sounded like us!) but hadn’t heard of anyone growing them. Also where is the best place to get them?

Many thanks in advance for your help!

Balcony Garden Advice?

January 5, 2011

Hi,

I have a large balcony space and would like to start a small organic garden to grow salad vegetables, spinach and herbs and wonder whether your organisation has any apartment-dweller members who may have experience of this in Canberra?

With many thanks and best wishes,

Niki Francis

Codling Moth Problems

January 4, 2011

Hi,

Just wondering what methods people use to control codling moth in apples? We have a fairly healthy pink lady crop this year but those tell-tale signs are also there I notice…so culling has begun. I want to do what I can to try to prevent it next season. I’m doing my research of course, but personal experience accounts for a lot!

Thanks in advance,
Ray

Cherry Problems

January 4, 2011

Our cherrys all rotted in the rain a few weeks ago.  They were ripening nicely, carefully netted, whena after a big rain they all suddenly rotted en masse, almost overnight.  Still sitting on the tree in clumps and I’m wondering whether I should cut them off?  Does anyone know?  Thanks!!
