This year the Canberra Horticultural Society’s Autumn Show is on 3 and 4 March. Please consider submitting an entry. A huge number of people visit the show and it provides excellent publicity for COGS and for growing your own organic fruit and vegetables. Berry Fruit Trial

A group is being formed which will be trialling soft berry fruit not normally found in Australia. The trial is being organised by the CSIRO Discovery Centre in conjunction with National Science Week. Volunteers Needed

Greetings,
My name is Eugene Lehmensich and I am a teacher at Sts Peter and Paul Primary School in Garran. I am coordinating a program next year involving growing seasonal, fresh, organic produce in a school garden and then teaching our students how to harvest and prepare nutritious and tasty meals from their produce. I was wondering if some of your members could be interested in volunteering in such a program? They would not just be working in the gardens, but also working with the students, sharing their expertise, experience and stories. It is a great program already and 2011 is shaping up to be another great year. Please circulate this message and your members are welcome to contact me on my mobile 0402134638. Volunteers will be required to complete a working with children check, and will receive all required tools and training.

I appreciate any assistance that you can provide.

Queanbeyan Plant Swap

QCC, QUEST/Landcare & COGS are running a plant swap stall this coming Saturday 27th November at the Family Fun Day in Queanbeyan Park from 10-2. The event has been organised by QCC and is a great idea. Bring along plants, seedlings and/or cuttings from 10-12 and pick up something in return from 12-2.

There will also be local native plants for sale from Landcare for $2 each.

The next beginners vegetable gardening course offered by QUEST at the COGS Queanbeyan Garden at Railway Park will be held on 26 September from 1:30 to 4:30pm. Fee $20.00.
