The Mitchell Garden was set up in 1996 to provide a space for local residence of the Gungahlin and north Canberra area to enjoy organic gardening in a community setting.

It is a place for gardeners, both novice and experienced, to grow organic fruits and vegetables in a sunny, friendly, secure, and supportive environment. The diverse nature and ages of our garden members provides a range of gardening knowledge and experiences, to help and encourage new gardeners to grow the produce of their choice.

Garden members have their own plot to use all year around, at their chosen time of day. Garden services like tools and water are available to all members to use and share. Other items to share are the herb garden, fruit trees and the organic compost that the members make from recycling their food scraps and vegetable waste.

The garden holds periodic working bees to keep the grass and weeds down, clean up the garden shed and service all tools and maintain other common areas within the garden.

The COGS Mitchell Garden Committee is available to assist you with plant information, soil development including additives, pest management and composting methods best suited for organic growing.

The garden is secure and safe and is welcoming to all who wish to join the Mitchell Community Garden – both the young and not so young.
