Charnwood Community gardeners are opening their garden up to COGS members and their friends on 28 May 2017 . If you would like to find out about what happens in a COGS Community Garden and what they are growing (some things are very unusual) and how they grow them then be at the Garden at 2pm. We will meet at the main gate to the garden and then commence the tour of the garden around 2.05pm.
After we have completed the tour Troy Lloyd, a member of the Charnwood garden, will talk to the group about the Back to Eden method of gardening which he has experimented with successfully over the past 12 months. The concept behind Back to Eden gardening is to cover the soil to protect against the elements of nature, using materials that are readily available in the local area. Troy will demonstrate how the use of wood chips to improve the soil has resulted in increased yields, with significantly less time spent weeding and watering.
At the conclusion of the tour and the talk we will have afternnon tea of scones and home made jam which will be hosted by the Charnwood’s gardeners. If you would like to bring a plate for afternoon tea that would be great. Tea and coffee will be provided.
The Charnwood garden is located adjacent to Sports Way just off Lhotsky St, Charnwood. A COGS sign will be displayed to help you find it. It does have access to a toilet and in In case it rains it would be advisable for you to bring an umbrella.
It should be an interesting and enjoyable afternoon so please be there. For more information, please email “firstname.lastname@example.org“.
